If you’re looking for a fun and easy painting craft to do with your kids this week, try making this Fiery Furnace Handprint Craft while you talk about the Bible story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

This craft requires very few supplies to make, is super easy to follow, and is a great craft to lead into a discussion about courage and the story of the fiery furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had great faith in God, and that faith is what made them so brave.

So as we create this painted image of 4 people in the fire, you can reiterate to your kids that just like with those 3 men in the furnace, God is always with us and He can make us brave.

If you’re looking for the story of Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and the fiery furnace in the Bible look up Daniel 3:1-30. These verses would be great to maybe read to your kids before or after doing this craft

If you’re looking for more bravery-themed crafts, snacks, activities, and a corresponding simple Bible lesson to do with your kids, check out this week’s Weekly Fun Plan: He Makes Me Brave!

supplies needed to make fiery furnace handprint craft

Steps:

  • To start, lay a piece of plain white paper down landscape-wise. I used a larger 12”x18” piece of craft paper, but a standard printer size 8.5”x11” would work as well.
  • Print off the FREE Fiery Furnace Printout linked here on another piece of paper, and cut out the 4 stick-figure men. These don’t need to be cut out precisely, you just need the general shape of a person. See the image below.
  • Carefully and lightly tape the 4 men cutouts to the center of your white paper.
  • Next, use red, orange, and yellow paint. Paint your child’s hand or let them dip their hand in the various colors of paint and press their handprints onto the paper. Repeat this process many times until you cover a majority of the paper making sure to completely cover the space on top and around the 4 cutouts. It should now look like a bunch of flames or a big fire.
  • Set your artwork aside to dry. Once completely dry, carefully remove your taped-on cutouts to reveal the shadows of 4 men in the fire. That’s it you’re done! If you’d like you can also use a marker to write on a Bible verse, simple quote, or message.
