If you’re looking for a fun and easy craft to do with your kids that can double as a handmade Father’s Day gift, try making these Shrinky Dink Keychains!

This craft is easy to do, only requires a few supplies, and is a gift the Father or Father figure in your life will love and use. Your kids will have so much fun drawing/coloring their keychain designs and then watching their creations quickly shrink in the oven like magic.

Follow the heating instructions on your particular Shrinky Dink Kit, but most sheets only require 2-3 minutes in the oven.

The best part is most Shrinky Dink Kits come with lots of sheets and can be used to make a ton of different keychains, necklaces, bracelet charms, earrings, and more. My kids each made a keychain for my husband for Father’s Day, then made many more fun keychains for themselves. I think Shrinky Dink sheets are great craft supplies to keep on hand year-round!

If you’re looking for more Father’s Day-themed crafts, snacks, activities, and a corresponding simple Bible lesson to do with your kids, check out this week’s Weekly Fun Plan: Loving Father.

Supplies:

Steps:

  • To start, brainstorm a keychain design for the father you are celebrating. Outline your image with a black Sharpie marker onto the rough side of your Shrinky Dink sheet.
    • We chose to do a trophy that says “Best Dad Ever” and a simple rectangle that said “I Love Daddy!”
  • Next, using either colored Sharpie markers or colored pencils, color in your image.
  • Once finished coloring, use a hole punch to cut a hole for your keychain in or around your image.
  • Cut off any excess around your image using scissors.
  • Place your keychain designs onto a cookie sheet on top of some parchment paper. Be sure to space your designs apart by a few inches if baking more than one.
  • Follow the baking instructions on the package of Shrinky Dink sheets you have.
    • The Shrinky Dink Kit I have linked calls for an oven temperature of 329 degrees Fahrenheit and a bake time of 2-3 minutes.
  • Once finished baking, set your charms aside to cool for a few minutes then finish up by attaching the keychain.
