Steps:

  • To begin, let your child pick out 2 sheets of their favorite colored construction paper. Glue them together by their longer sides to create the base of your placemat.

  • Glue the plate, utensils, cup holder, and Thanksgiving prayer onto your constitution paper placemat base in their appropriate places. View the image below for reference.
  • Next, we’re going to make our turkey handprints. Take some brown and 4 other color paints and prep them on a plate or paint pallet to be painted onto your child’s hand. Paint the palm and thumb brown (this will be the body and head of your turkey), then paint each additional finger a different color (these will be the tail feathers for your turkey). Once their hand is covered in the paint, gently press their handprint onto the plate portion of their placemat. Then clean off their hand and set the placemat to dry.

  • Once the paint is completely dry, use your markers to draw a beak, wattle, eye, and feet onto your handprint. Then, if you’d like, use your marker to put your child’s name and the year onto the plate. View the image below for reference.

  • If you’d like, you can also let your child decorate their placemat with stickers or more coloring.
  • Lastly, carefully cut two pieces of contact paper big enough to cover your placemat and stick them to both the front and back of your placemat. Cut off any excess contact paper around the border of the placemat and you’re done! It is now wipeable and ready to be used for Thanksgiving dinner.
