Weekly Fun Plan: Noah’s Ark

Welcome to this week’s Weekly Fun Plan: Noah’s Ark! If you haven’t already I recommend you read my introductory blog post “Faith-filled Fun: What Is It? And Why I Started It”. That post will give you some background into this blog and a little more in-depth explanation of my Weekly Fun Plans and how to use them.
This Week’s Theme: Noah’s Ark!
This week we learn about the popular Bible story of Noah’s Ark and have some fun with various rainbow/Noah-themed crafts, snacks, and activity ideas.
The story of Noah’s Ark is a popular one that covers a wild time in the history of our world. It has lessons in following God when others around you don’t, obedience to God even when it might sound “crazy”, and God’s promises to us. This week you can have discussions with your kids on any or all of these topics, it’s up to you!

Bible Lesson: What to Read or Watch this week
Since this week we are learning about the story of Noah, here are some great resources to read/watch:
If you have young children (ages 0-8):
- Read the following Bible verses:
- Watch “The Story of Noah’s Ark for Kids | Bible Stories for Kids” by Minno – Bible Stories for Kids on YouTube. This is a fun animated 6-minute video about the story of Noah’s Ark specifically geared towards young children.
If you have older children/teens (ages 9-18):
- Read the same verses listed above and have them take notes on what they’ve learned. Then have them answer the discussion questions for this week’s lesson.
- If they’re looking for more of a challenge, tell them to search the Bible to find verses that tell us the different promises from God. You can use these verses for your “God’s Promises Rainbow” craft later.
Bible Lesson: Questions to Ask Your Kids/Discuss this week
If you read the recommended Bible verses or watched the YouTube video your kids should be able to answer this week’s question:
What does the rainbow in the story of Noah represent? Answer: God’s Promise to never flood the world again!
If you have little ones (ages 0-8):
I would focus on that one question first. Ask them the same question every morning or evening and see if they can remember the answer. Once they understand and remember that answer, move on to the additional discussion questions below.
If you have older children (ages 9-18):
Here are some additional questions you can discuss with your children throughout the week:
- How many of each type of animal were on the ark?
- How did Noah know he needed to build an ark?
- Why did God choose Noah to save and build the ark?
- How many days did it rain when God sent the flood?
- What makes God’s promises different/significant? Does God keep his promises?
- What are some other promises from God we read in the Bible?
- What can I learn from this story in the Bible?
Bible Lesson: Memory Verse
Memorizing scripture is vital to teaching our children at a young age. Recalling and reciting scripture that they’ve memorized will help them as they grow and go through trials in life. It will also encourage them, equip them to go out and be little disciples of Jesus, and strengthen their faith as they age.
This week let’s have your kids work on memorizing Genesis 9:13
Memorizing scripture is so much easier for kids if you can find a way to make it fun. Here are some different ideas to try as a family to help memorize this week’s verse:
- Come up with some simple motions for each word of the verse and make a cheer or dance out of it.
- Come up with your own melody and create a song out of it. (BONUS: You can use your Rainbow Rainstick craft from this week while you sing your song!)
- Make it a game. Start by saying one word or phrase of the verse at a time and have your kids repeat after you until you’ve gotten through the whole verse. Then repeat the process saying the words differently every time. Examples: slow, fast, in a silly voice, quiet, loud, etc.
Once your child/children have got it, I recommend practicing reciting the verse each morning over breakfast or before they leave for school and maybe even again before bed. Make it a part of your routine and you’ll be amazed at how fast they will begin to pick it up.

- Peanut Butter (or other nut butter)
- Animal Crackers
Recipe: Noah’s Ark Banana Boat
This week’s snack idea isn’t as much of a recipe as a fun way to present a healthy dose of fruit & protein to your kids. Make these Noah’s Ark Banana Boats in just a few simple steps:
- Peel a banana and spread a thick layer of peanut butter (or other nut butter you like) onto the inside curve of the banana.
- Carefully stick a few different animal crackers into the peanut butter.
- Add another glob of peanut butter to a plate set your banana boat on it to secure it upright and serve! You now have a cute miniature Noah’s Ark snack.
Crafts:
This week, we are making “God’s Promises Rainbows” and “Rainbow Rainsticks”. Both crafts are simple, colorful, fun, and perfect for our Noah’s Ark theme!
God’s Promises Rainbow:
Our first craft this week is a great way to start a discussion with your kids about some of the promises from God we find in the Bible while making a colorful piece of art. Follow the link for easy step-by-step instructions on how to make this God’s Promises Rainbow.
Rainbow Rainstick:
Next up we have these fun Rainbow Rainsticks. Play with the rice beforehand for a great sensory opportunity and once you’ve finished the craft you’ll have a simple musical instrument your kids will love! Follow the link for an easy step-by-step guide.
Activities:
With our theme this week, “Noah’s Ark”, here are a few extra ideas for activities to do with your children:
- Visit your local zoo, aquarium, or nature center.
- Build an “ark” out of a cardboard box and fill it in with toy/stuffed animals you have around the house.
- If you have access to one, go on a boat ride.
- Go outside and see if you can collect something in nature that matches every color of the rainbow.
- Make a rainbow or some animals out of playdough or craft clay.
Parenting Tip of the Week:
One easy way we can help our children build a strong foundation of faith is through the music we listen to in our homes and in the car. It can be such a passive activity having music on in the background while we cook dinner, while they play with their toys, or while we drive them to school or practice, but it can make such an impact. Fill your home with praise and worship music whenever possible. You’ll see the greatest effects of this when you suddenly hear your children singing along to the words of your favorite worship song. Prayers:
Lastly, I like to end each Weekly Fun Plan with some example prayers for your week. One is to pray with your kids, maybe before they get on the bus in the morning, before a meal, or before bed, and the other prayer is for you, the parent, to pray over your kids throughout the week.

Dear God, thank you for your steadfast love and compassion. Thank you for always keeping your promises. Amen.

Dear Lord, I put my trust in you and the promises you’ve made, you are faithful to bring them about according to your Word. Thank you for always keeping your promises to us. Lord grant me wisdom as I teach my children about your promises and may they have hearts and minds to understand and appreciate them. In Jesus name, amen.
