We love a fun multiuse craft here at Faith-filled Fun, especially when we can reduce waste and make two things out of one! This week you’ll definitely want to try making this Olympic Paper Crown & Gold Medal Craft! Use one paper plate to make two separate Olympic-themed pieces, and when finished your kids will have a complete gold medalist costume.

This easy paper craft is perfect for an Olympic/sports-themed party, as well as any Sunday School, Kids Ministry, or VBS lesson on 1 Corinthians 9:24-25.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.”

1 Corinthians 9:24-25

Supplies:

supplies needed for olympic paper crown & gold medal craft

Steps:

  • To start, cut out a circle from the center of a paper plate. I followed along the plate’s natural groove mark, then cut off a bit more because I wanted a smaller medal. Using the remaining border of the paper plate cut off a small slice to give you a “C” shape. See the image below for reference.

To make the Olympic Crown:

  • Using 1 or 2 shades of green construction paper, cut out some simple leaf shapes.
  • Glue your paper leaves all along your “C” shaped paper plate piece overlapping leaves and being sure to cover all the white space. Once covered and dry this will create your Olympic leaf crown.

To make the Gold Medal:

  • Using the circle shape you cut out of your paper plate and a small square of aluminum foil, fold the foil around the circle covering it completely and smoothing it out on one side.
  • Cut a piece of ribbon long enough for your medal to hang around your child’s neck. Staple both ends of the ribbon to the back side of your new medal.
  • Now, using a highlighter or a yellow-colored Sharpie marker color the foil on the front side of your medal. (Washable Crayola markers will not stick to foil. It needs to be a permanent marker.)
  • Lastly, using a black Sharpie write “1st” on the front of your gold medal.
  • You should now have both a completed crown and a gold medal!
