Welcome to the very first Weekly Fun Plan of Faith-filled Fun! If you haven’t already I highly recommend you read my introductory blog post “What is Faith-filled Fun? And Why I started it”, just to get some background into this blog and a little more in-depth explanation of my Weekly Fun Plans and how you can use them.

In a nutshell, every week I will be posting a brand new “Weekly Fun Plan”. Each plan will have its own fun theme for the week that I will base snack recipes, craft ideas, family activities, simple bible lessons, and faith-filled content around. Follow these plans in whatever way best suits your family and your schedule. Then watch as these easy-to-follow faith-based ideas help integrate gospel-centered conversation and learning into your homes in a way that is fun for both you and your kids.

This Week’s Theme: Loving S’more Like Jesus

This week we are going to center all of your crafts, activities, and conversations with your kids around the idea of “loving more like Jesus” but to give it a fun end-of-summer theme we’re swapping the word “more” for “s’more”. Hopefully, this week’s plan will give you some sweet memories with your kids, and don’t forget to share your experiences on social media. Bible Lesson: What to Read or Watch this week

If you have younger children and haven’t already, I highly recommend downloading the “Bible for Kids” app from the App Store. This is an app for children that uses fun moving graphics and sounds to tell them the stories in the Bible. Read the stories yourself or use the audio to have them read to you.

The Bible App for Kids

Since this week we are focusing on learning to love more like Jesus here are some great resources to read/watch:

If you have young children (ages 0-8):

  • Read or listen to the “It is Finished” story on the Bible for Kids app OR
It Is Finished Bible Adventure episode image

If you have older children/teens (ages 9-18):

  • Read John 19: 1-30 (Jesus’s Crucifixion) to them or encourage them to read it during their own personal study time.

Bible Lesson: Questions to Ask Your Kids/Discuss this week

If you watched the “It Is Finished” Bible Adventure episode, you’ll see the question they focus on is:

“How do I love like Jesus?” And the answer is “I show love to everyone!”

If you have little ones (ages 0-8):

Focus on that one question this week, and work on having them memorize the answer. Ask them that same question every morning or evening and see if they can answer it correctly.

If you have older children (ages 9-18):

Here are some additional questions you can discuss with them throughout the week:

  • How did Jesus show love?
  • Who did Jesus show love to?
  • Why does God want us to love others?
  • Who is someone in your life you can show love to today?

Bible Lesson: Memory Verse

Memorizing scripture is such a vital skill to teach our children at a young age. Recalling and reciting scripture that they’ve memorized will help them as they grow and go through struggles or trials in life. It will also encourage them, it will equip them to go out and be disciples of Jesus and share what they know, and it will strengthen their own faith as they get older. However, memorizing scripture can be hard for adults so we often neglect to teach our children to do it or assume they’re too young to memorize anything. But if your toddler can memorize the theme song to their favorite show or the steps to navigate a smartphone they absolutely have the mental capacity to memorize simple Bible verses!

This week let’s have your kids work on memorizing John 13:34, and if they watched the Bible adventure episode for this week then they’ve already learned some fun motions to help them remember it. I recommend practicing reciting the verse each morning over breakfast or before they leave for school and maybe even again before bed. Make it a part of your routine and you’ll be amazed at how fast they will begin to pick it up.

Activity:

Since your children are answering the question “How do I love like Jesus?”  in this week’s plan, here are a few extra ideas for activities to do with your children to help them see what it means to love like Jesus. Feel free to come up with your own ideas too:

  • Write a letter or make a picture for a family member or someone you love.
  • Make cookies or maybe even share some extra s’mores snack mix with a neighbor or first responders in your area.
  • Go to a nearby park and pick up trash.
  • Give a compliment to someone you don’t know while at school or out at the store.

Prayers:

Lastly, I want to end each Weekly Fun Plan with some example prayers for your week. One is to pray with your kids, maybe before they get on the bus in the morning, before a meal, or before bed, and the other prayer is for you, the parent, to pray over your kids this week.

Prayer to say with your kids this week:

Dear God, I love You! Thank You for showing us what love means by sending Jesus to save us. Thank You for loving me. Help me show my love to others by doing kind, patient, and caring things for them. Amen.

Prayer to pray over your kids this week:

Dear God, thank you for the blessing that is my child/children. I am so grateful to be able to watch him/her grow and develop. I pray, Lord, that you would soften his/her heart to the gospel and that he/she would find joy in learning about You, praying to You, and serving You each day. I ask that you give me wisdom as I care for my child/children and help me to pass along faith to him/her in both the words I speak and my actions. Lord, help my child to love You and love others the way that Jesus would, and I pray that he/she will always know how much he/she is loved by You. In Jesus name, amen.

I hope you have an amazing week! Don’t forget to subscribe to my email list to stay up to date with the blog!
