Ever noticed that if you flip a candy cane upside down it looks like the letter J? Well this week let’s teach your kids whose name started with a J and is the real reason for the season by making this J is for Jesus Candy Cane Art!
This craft is a great way to get in a quick letter recognition lesson with your toddlers/preschool-aged children and hopefully will lead to a further discussion about the birth of Jesus and why we celebrate Christmas.
This craft requires very few supplies, is easy to make, and once finished makes a cute Christmas decoration for your home.

Supplies:
- Construction Paper
- White Printer Paper
- J is for Jesus Cutout PDF
- Scissors
- Crayons, Colored Pencils, or Markers
- Red Paint
- Glue
Steps:
- To start, print off my FREE J is for Jesus Cutout PDF.
- Next use either red paint or a red coloring utensil (crayon, colored pencil, or marker) to create the red stripes on your candy cane.
- Color in your baby Jesus and draw on his little face.
- Once your red paint is dry or your coloring is done, cut out both the baby Jesus and the candy cane shapes.
- Using a glue stick, glue your candy cane to your favorite color of construction paper. Be sure to glue it upside down to create the letter J.
- Next, cut some tiny strips of yellow construction paper and glue them down in the curve of your J candy cane shape. This will be the bed of hay for your baby Jesus. If you’d like you can also cut out a star shape and glue it to the top of your paper.
- Lastly, glue your baby Jesus on top of the “hay” and use a marker to write “J is for Jesus” in the open space on your finished picture.
