Paper Plate Fish

This Paper Plate Fish craft is easy to make, adorable, completely customizable to each child’s creative tastes (as there are so many different colors you could use), and would be great for any fishing, camping, or underwater-themed kids’ event.

It’s also the perfect craft for a children’s church or kid’s ministry event. The fish symbol is often used to represent Christianity in general, can be a reminder of the feeding of the 5,000 or Jonah stories in the Bible, or like in my most recent blog post it can represent our call as Christians to go and be “fishers of men”. And if you’re looking for more Bible-based crafts and activities like this to do with your kids on a daily basis, be sure to check out my full blog post “Weekly Fun Plan: Fishers of Men”.

Supplies:

Steps:

  • Cut or rip your various colors of tissue paper into small approximately 1” size squares/pieces.
  • Take your paper plate and cut a wedge out of the plate. This cut will create both the mouth opening and the tail fin for your fish so use your judgment for the angle of this cut.
  • Tape or glue your wedge piece to the opposite end of the plate to create the tail fin. Then cut 2 additional triangles out of your choice of construction paper and glue/tape them to the fish body, one on top and one on the bottom. These will create your top and bottom fins.
  • Have your child squeeze glue all over the paper plate or paint the glue on with a brush to cover the entire body and tail of the fish.
  • Then allow your child to place the cut/ripped pieces of tissue paper all over the glued area. Covering the whole fish.
  • Once finished with the tissue paper, take one googly eye and glue it above the mouth opening. Let your fish dry and you’re done!
