This fun and fully functional Paper Plate Tambourine craft requires just a few simple supplies. It easily creates a cute and colorful homemade instrument for your kids to play with and enjoy.

Do this craft with your kids at home, for any kids’ ministry event, VBS, homeschooling, or Sunday school lesson on Praise & Worship.

Some ideas for Bible verses you could write on your finished tambourine are:

  • Psalm 47:1 “Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.”
  • Psalm 33:3 “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.”
  • Psalm 150:6 “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”
  • Psalm 150:4 “Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes!”
  • Psalm 71:22 “I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel.”
  • Psalm 105:1-3 “Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.”
  • Psalm 149:3-4 “Praise his name with dancing, accompanied by tambourine and harp. For the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.”
  • Ephesians 5:19-20 “Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

If you choose to forgo the writing on the tambourine these could also make easy music-themed activities/decorations. Perfect for a birthday party, children’s concert, or other musical-type event.

Supplies:

Steps:

  • To start, cut a handful of short ribbon strands to use for tassels on your tambourine.
  • Staple these ribbons to the edge of one of your paper plates.
  • Set your ribbon-decorated plate onto a flat surface and fill it with a small amount of dried rice.
  • Place your second paper plate on top of your rice-filled plate. Carefully staple the two plates together securing the rice inside. You will want to space your staples close together to ensure no rice will spill out of your tambourine.
  • Once your plates are sealed together, using markers, crayons, or other colorful craft supplies decorate the outside of your tambourine. You could completely color the outside, draw patterns, add stickers, or write a message on your instrument. Because we are learning about Praise & Worship in our Bible lesson this week, I chose to write Psalm 150:6.
