Welcome to this week’s “Weekly Fun Plan: Who is Moses?”. If you haven’t already I recommend you read my introductory blog post “Faith-filled Fun: What Is It? And Why I Started It”. That post will give you some background into this blog and a little more in-depth explanation of my Weekly Fun Plans and how to use them.

This Week’s Theme: Who is Moses?

It’s been a while since we’ve done a Weekly Fun Plan on a character or story in the Bible rather than a topic, so I figured it was about time to do another one. There are so many great stories in the Bible to teach our children, and so many amazing people to learn about and learn lessons from. So this week we are going to dive into the life of Moses.

We will learn about how brave and selfless his mother was when she saved his life by putting him in a basket in the Nile. We’ll learn about the many trials Moses faced as he grew up and how he talked to God through a burning bush. We will finish by looking at the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea when Moses led God’s people out of Egypt. It’s a lot to cover but I think you and your family are going to love taking a walk through the life of this very important and interesting character in the Bible through fun Moses-themed crafts, snacks, and activities.

If you try anything in this week’s plan don’t forget to share your experiences on social media! Tag us @faithfilledfun on Instagram or use #faithfilledfun.

Bible Lesson: What to Read or Watch this week

Since this week we are learning about Moses, here are some great resources to read/watch:

Read:
Watch:

Moses and the Exodus + More of Moses’ Story | Stories of the Bible” by Saddleback Kids on YouTube. This is a fun, easy-to-follow, animated video for kids on the stories of Moses that is about 20 minutes long.

If you only have time for a short 5-minute video Watch:

Who is Moses? | Bible Stories for Kids” by Minno – Bible Stories for Kids on YouTube. This cute animated video does a great job quickly summarizing who Moses was but doesn’t go into all the stories of his life. This video mainly focuses on the story of Moses and the burning bush.

If you have older children/teens (ages 9-18):

  • Have them Read the same verses listed above and take notes on what they’ve learned. Then have them answer the discussion questions for this week’s lesson.

Bible Lesson: Questions to Ask Your Kids/Discuss this week

If you read the recommended Bible verses or watched the YouTube video(s) your kids should be able to answer this week’s question:

Who is Moses? Answer: Moses was a man God chose to help His people. God spoke to Moses and used him to lead His people out of Egypt from the evil Pharaoh through many miracles.

If you have little ones (ages 0-5):

I would focus on that one question first. Ask them the same question every morning or evening and see how much of Moses’ story they can remember. Once you feel they understand who Moses was, move on to the additional discussion questions below.

If you have older children (ages 6 & up):

Here are some additional questions you can discuss with them throughout the week:

  • Why was Moses placed in the Nile River as a baby? And who found him?
  • When he was older, how did God speak to Moses?
  • What did God tell Moses to do?
  • How do you think Moses felt when God first spoke to him?
  • Who did Moses lead out of Egypt?
  • How did the Israelites get across the Red Sea?
  • What does Moses’ story teach us about listening to God?

Bible Lesson: Memory Verse

Memorizing scripture is vital to teaching our children at a young age. Recalling and reciting scripture that they’ve memorized will help them as they grow and go through trials in life. It will also encourage them, equip them to go out and be little disciples of Jesus, and strengthen their faith as they age.

This week let’s have your kids work on memorizing Exodus 14:14

Memorizing scripture is so much easier for kids if you can find a way to make it fun. Here are some different ideas to try as a family to help memorize this week’s verse:

  • Come up with some simple motions for each word of the verse and make a cheer or dance out of it.
  • Come up with your own melody and create a song out of it.
  • Make it a game. Start by saying one word or phrase of the verse at a time and have your kids repeat after you until you’ve gotten through the whole verse. Then repeat the process saying the words differently every time. Examples: slow, fast, in a silly voice, quiet, loud, etc.
  • Bible Verse Hot Potato: Take a ball and gather your family/group in a circle. Pass the ball around to different people in the circle but each time someone catches the ball they have to say the next word in the memory verse. If the ball gets dropped on the floor, the one who was supposed to catch it has to try and say the entire memory verse.

Once your child/children have it, I recommend practicing reciting the verse each morning over breakfast, before they leave for school, and maybe even before bed. Make it a part of your routine and you’ll be amazed at how fast they will begin to pick it up.

Activities:

With our theme this week, “Who is Moses?”, here are a few extra ideas for activities to do with your children:

  • Do a water sensory table/bin and test different items from around the house to see what sinks and what floats.
  • Play dress up and act out your favorite Moses story.
  • If you live near a large body of water like the ocean or the Great Lakes:
    • Visit the beach on a warm day and visualize how amazing it would have been to see the waters of the Red Sea part.
    • Explore the beach or surrounding areas to find items in nature that you think might float on the water (ex: driftwood, grass, leaves, etc.)

Parenting Tip of the Week:

One easy way we can help our children build a strong foundation of faith is through the music we listen to in our homes and in the car. It can be such a passive activity having music on in the background while we cook dinner, while they play with their toys, or while we drive them to school or practice, but it can make such an impact. Fill your home with praise and worship music whenever possible. You’ll see the greatest effects of this when you suddenly hear your children singing along to the words of your favorite worship song. Check out my Spotify for playlists I’ve created specifically with Christian Songs for Kids and My Current Worship Favs to play in our home! New songs are added frequently.

Prayers:

Lastly, I like to end each Weekly Fun Plan with some example prayers for your week. One is to pray with your kids, maybe before they get on the bus in the morning, before a meal, or before bed, and the other prayer is for you, the parent, to pray over your kids throughout the week.

Prayer to say with your kids this week:

Dear God, thank You for the story of Moses and all the ways You used him. Help me to be brave like Moses and trust You, even when things are hard. Teach me to listen to Your voice and obey, just like he did. Thank You for leading and taking care of me, just like You took care of Your people long ago. I love You! In Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer to pray over your kids this week:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the story of Moses and the lessons it teaches us. Just as You guided him, please guide my child every day. Give them courage to follow You, faith to trust You, and a heart that listens to Your voice. Help them to be strong in hard times and always know that You are with them. May they grow to love You more and walk in Your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I hope you have a wonderful week and don’t forget to subscribe to my email list and follow me on Instagram @faithfilledfun to stay up to date with the blog!
