These festive Patriotic Dot Art Stars require very few supplies or steps and create a fun piece of art just in time for the 4th of July!

This easy dot art craft is perfect for Independence Day if you use red, white, and blue paints. However, this method of dot painting can be used to make many different shapes for other occasions as well.

The dots can be done using various techniques:

This craft would be great for any kids’ ministry event, Sunday school, or homeschooling lesson on “Freedom in Christ” which is why I included the Bible verse John 8:36 in my example!

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” John 8:36

Steps:

  • To start, draw or trace a large star shape onto construction paper. Then cut out the shape.
  • Gently tape the shape onto the center of a piece of white paper using one small loop of tape on the back of the cutout shape.
  • Next, using either your fingers or Q-tips paint dots of red, white, and blue colored paints all over the white area of the paper. Be sure to get dots of paint all along the border of your star so that the shape will be well-defined when you remove the cutout.
  • Set your paper aside to dry.
  • Once all the paint dots are completely dry, carefully peel your star cutout off the paper revealing your star shadow.
  • Leave your dot art star image as is or using markers write a simple message in the center of your star. Some ideas include:
    • Happy 4th of July!
    • Freedom in Christ
    • John 8:36
    • Free Indeed
    • Happy Independence Day!
    • USA
    • God Bless America!
