Welcome to this week’s Weekly Fun Plan: Serving Up a Slice of God’s Love. If you haven’t already, I recommend you read my introductory blog post, “Faith-filled Fun: What Is It? And Why I Started It”. That post will give you some background on this blog and a little more in-depth explanation of my Weekly Fun Plans and how to use them.
This Week’s Theme: Serving Up a Slice of God’s Love
Fall is in full swing, Thanksgiving is near, and Christmas is just around the corner! This time of year naturally makes us pause and think about what we’re thankful for—but it can also be a season that gets swept up in consumerism. For kids, especially, all the talk about wish lists and presents can quickly lead to a “me, me, me” mindset.
This year, let’s push back against that temptation and help our kids, families, and ministries refocus on giving and serving. Serving is such an important part of the Christian life—but it doesn’t always come naturally. It’s not always fun, convenient, or exciting to serve others, but it is deeply satisfying to the soul and reflects the heart of Jesus. That’s why it’s so important to start teaching this truth to our kids early.
This week’s lesson is all about serving others and showing God’s love in action! We’ll be helping our kids “serve up a slice” of God’s love through a fun video, plus a few pie-themed crafts and snacks that tie it all together.

Bible Lesson: What to Read or Watch this week
This week, we are focusing on the importance of serving. Here are some great resources to read/watch:
If you have young children (ages 0-8):
- Read the following Bible verses and make notes/discuss what these verses tell us about serving others:
- Watch “How Can We Serve Others?” by KidSpring Children’s Ministry on YouTube. This is a quick and easy-to-understand 2-minute video for kids about serving others.
If you have older children/teens (ages 9-18):
- Read the same Bible verses listed above, then have them answer the discussion questions for this week’s lesson.
Bible Lesson: Questions to Ask Your Kids/Discuss this week
If you read the recommended Bible verses or watched the YouTube video, your kids should be able to answer this week’s question:
Why should we serve others? Answer: A heart after God serves others
If you have little ones (ages 0-5):
I would focus on that one question first. Once they understand, move on to the additional discussion questions below.
If you have older children (ages 6 & up):
Here are some additional questions you can discuss with them throughout the week:
- How can we serve others?
- Is it always easy to serve others?
- How does it make you feel when others do something to serve you? How do you think it makes others feel when you serve them?
- How does it make you feel when you serve?
- How did Jesus serve others?
Bible Lesson: Memory Verse
Memorizing scripture is vital to teaching our children at a young age. Recalling and reciting scripture that they’ve memorized will help them as they grow and go through trials in life. It will also encourage them, equip them to go out and be little disciples of Jesus, and strengthen their faith as they age.
This week, let’s have your kids work on memorizing Matthew 20:28

Memorizing scripture is so much easier for kids if you can find a way to make it fun. Here are some different ideas to try as a family to help memorize this week’s verse:
- Come up with some simple motions for each word of the verse and make a cheer or dance out of it.
- Come up with your own melody and create a song out of it.
- Make it a game. Start by saying one word or phrase of the verse at a time and have your kids repeat after you until you’ve gotten through the whole verse. Then repeat the process, saying the words differently every time. Examples: slow, fast, in a silly voice, quiet, loud, etc.
Once your child/children have it, I recommend practicing reciting the verse each morning over breakfast, before they leave for school, and maybe even before bed. Make it a part of your routine, and you’ll be amazed at how fast they will begin to pick it up.

Recipe: Apple Pie Bites
Our theme this week is pie-related, so of course our snack has to be too! These Apple Pie Bites are a quick and delicious way to enjoy the flavors of homemade apple pie—without all the fuss.
Made with crescent rolls, apple slices, apple pie spice, and a touch of sweetness, they bake up into perfectly golden, single-serving pies that kids and adults alike will love. They’re the perfect fall snack to make with your family, share at a gathering, or bring as a simple “dish to pass” for Thanksgiving.
Whether you’re serving them after your Sunday dinner or bringing a plate to a fall event, these Apple Pie Bites are sure to remind everyone that the sweetest moments often come from the simplest acts of sharing.
I found this amazing Apple Pie Bites recipe over on The Blond Cook— and it was a total hit with my family! I honestly make no tweaks to the recipe, so rather than post an original recipe this week, you can find her full recipe and instructions here: Apple Pie Bites

Crafts:
This week, we are making a “Paper Plate Apple Pie Craft” and a “Serving Others Pumpkin Pie Slice”. Both of these crafts are easy fall activities to try with your kids for Thanksgiving or just with a lesson on service!

Activities:
With our theme this week, “Serving Up a Slice of God’s Love”, here are a few extra ideas for activities to do with your children:
- Bake a pie as a family and gift it to someone like a grandparent, neighbor, friend, etc.
- Serve at a local nonprofit or church together.
- Make a list of ways to serve your family members in your home.

Parenting Tip of the Week:
One easy way we can help our children build a strong foundation of faith is through the music we listen to in our homes and in the car. It can be such a passive activity, having music on in the background while we cook dinner, while they play with their toys, or while we drive them to school or practice, but it can make such an impact. Fill your home with praise and worship music whenever possible. You’ll see the greatest effects of this when you suddenly hear your children singing along to the words of your favorite worship song. Check out my Spotify for playlists I’ve created specifically with Christian Songs for Kids and My Current Worship Favs to play in our home! New songs are added frequently.

Prayers:
Lastly, I like to end each Weekly Fun Plan with some prayers for your week. One is to pray with your kids, maybe before they get on the bus in the morning, before a meal, or before bed, and the other prayer is for you, the parent, to pray over your kids throughout the week.
Prayer to say with your kids this week:
Dear God, Thank You for loving us so much and showing us what it means to serve others. Help us have kind hearts and willing hands to help those around us. When we see someone in need, remind us to stop and share Your love. Let everything we do be done with joy and for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Prayer to pray over your kids this week:
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of these precious children. As we teach them about serving others, help their hearts to be tender, kind, and eager to show Your love in action. Give them eyes to see the needs around them and the courage to step in and help, even when it’s not easy or convenient. Teach them that true joy comes from giving, not getting, and that serving others is one of the best ways to serve You. Guide our family to be a light in our community, reflecting Your love in all we do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
