This fun Cotton Ball Painting Sheep Craft requires just a few simple supplies and easily creates cute pieces of art for you to hang up and enjoy.

Do this craft with your kids at home, for any kids’ ministry event, VBS, homeschooling, or Sunday school lesson on sheep or shepherds in the Bible.

Some ideas for Bible verses you could write on your finished painting are:

  • Psalm 23:1 “The LORD is my shepherd; I have everything I need.”
  • Psalm 100:3 “Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.”
  • Isaiah 53:6 “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
  • John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
  • John 10:14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me”

If you choose to forgo the writing on the picture these could also make easy farm-themed decorations for a birthday party or event.

Supplies:

Steps:

  • To start, pinch some cotton balls into clothes pins to create your “paint brushes”. Then pour some white paint onto a plate or paint palette.
  • Choose a color of construction paper you’d like to use for your background. Darker colors work best to contrast the white paint.
  • Then take a piece of black construction paper and cut out a small and simple sheep’s head shape and two small rectangles for legs.
  • Using a white crayon draw a simple mouth onto your sheep’s head.
  • Place 2 googly eyes onto your sheep’s head then set aside for later.
  • Now, using your cotton ball paint brushes dab white paint all over the center of your background paper creating the wool of your sheep. Make the paint area as big or small as you’d like. Then, set aside to dry.
  • After everything is dry, glue your sheep’s head and legs onto the picture to form your sheep. See the image below for reference.
  • You can stop the craft right here or personalize it with a written message or Bible verse. For a list of good Bible verses on sheep/shepherds view above.
