These fun and easy Paper Palm Leaves require very few supplies, are super simple can be made in a matter of minutes, and create an adorable little palm leaf prop your kids can play with and enjoy!

You could do this craft with your kids for any jungle or beach-themed party. This would also be a great craft for any kids’ ministry event or Sunday school lesson on Palm Sunday.

I did the craft this week for my Bible lesson on Palm Sunday. So if you’re looking for more palm leaf-themed crafts, snacks, activities, or the full Bible lesson I mentioned, check out Weekly Fun Plan: Hosanna! (Palm Sunday).

Steps:

  • To start, get one piece of green construction paper. It can be any shade of green you like. Then place your paper onto your workspace portrait orientation.
  • Using scissors start about halfway up the side of your paper and cut a rounded diagonal line toward the center point of the top of your paper. Repeat the process on the opposite side of your paper and you should end up with a “rounded house” or “petal-type” shape. See the image below for reference.
  • Starting on either the left or right side of your shape accordion fold across the entire thing. Each fold should be around ½” in width. See the image for reference.
  • Once you are finished making folds across the whole paper take your scissors and make a few small cuts into the creases along the top to help create the illusion of separate palm leaves. These cuts only need to be 1-2” deep.
  • Next, break your kabob skewer in half so that you have a smaller stick to be your stem.
  • Carefully using a hot glue gun, glue the kabob skewer into one of the folds as close to the center of your “leaf” as you can. Leave 4-5” of skewer out of the leaf to be your handle/stem.
  • After gluing down your skewer press the accordion folds you made earlier back together on the skewer end and secure them with tape. See the image for reference.
  • Gently pull open the folds on the top to fan out your leaf if needed. Then you’re done!
