Welcome to this week’s “Weekly Fun Plan: Fruit of the Spirit”. If you haven’t already, I recommend you read my introductory blog post, “Faith-filled Fun: What Is It? And Why I Started It”. That post will give you some background on this blog and a little more in-depth explanation of my Weekly Fun Plans and how to use them.
This Week’s Theme: Fruit of the Spirit
It’s been a minute since I’ve shared a new Weekly Fun Plan – and if you’re a busy mom or serving in kids’ ministry, I know you totally get it. Between end-of-the-year school & sports chaos to all things VBS prep, spring can feel like a whirlwind! But now that the dust is starting to settle, I’m so excited to jump back into sharing faith-filled fun with you here on the blog.
And what better way to get back into the swing of things than with a Bible lesson on one of my most-requested topics – the Fruit of the Spirit! This lesson is packed with truth, activities, and encouragement to help you and your kids grow in godly character, one fruit at a time. Whether you’re a parent looking for meaningful discipleship moments at home or a ministry leader needing a fresh idea, this one’s for you!
In this lesson, we will cover “What are the fruits of the Spirit?”, “How do we get the fruit of the Spirit?”, “What grows out of sin?”, and “How can we grow closer to God?”. It’s a lot to cover, but I think you and your family or class are going to love discussing this topic with some fun fruit-themed crafts, snacks, and activities perfect for this Summer season!

Bible Lesson: What to Read or Watch this week
Since this week we are learning about the fruit of the Spirit, here are some great resources to read/watch:
If you have young children (ages 0-8):
- Read the following Bible verses:
- Watch “Every Fruit of the Spirit Explained | Bible Stories for Kids” by Minno – Bible Stories for Kids on YouTube. This is a fun, easy-to-follow, animated video for kids on the fruit of the Spirit that is about 5 minutes long.
If you have older children/teens (ages 9-18):
- Read Galatians 5:16-26 and take notes on what they’ve learned. Then have them answer the discussion questions for this week’s lesson.
Bible Lesson: Questions to Ask Your Kids/Discuss this week
If you read the recommended Bible verses or watched the YouTube video, your kids should be able to answer this week’s question:
What are the fruits of the Spirit?
Answer: The good fruit or attributes that grow out of following Jesus and having His Spirit in us. They are Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control.
If you have little ones (ages 0-5):
I would focus on that one question first. Ask them the same question every morning or evening and see how many of the fruits of the Spirit they can remember. Once they understand, move on to the additional discussion questions below.
If you have older children (ages 6 & up):
Here are some additional questions you can discuss with them throughout the week:
- How do we get the fruit of the Spirit?
- What grows out of sin?
- Who is the one person who showed all of the fruit of the Spirit perfectly?
- How can we become more like Jesus?
- What happens when we grow closer to God?
- What is one “fruit” that you can work on improving more this week?
Bible Lesson: Memory Verse
Memorizing scripture is vital to teaching our children at a young age. Recalling and reciting scripture that they’ve memorized will help them as they grow and go through trials in life. It will also encourage them, equip them to go out and be little disciples of Jesus, and strengthen their faith as they age.
This week, let’s have your kids work on memorizing Galatians 5:22-23

Memorizing scripture is so much easier for kids if you can find a way to make it fun. Here are some different ideas to try as a family to help memorize this week’s verse:
- Come up with some simple motions for each word of the verse and make a cheer or dance out of it.
- Make it a game. Start by saying one word or phrase of the verse at a time and have your kids repeat after you until you’ve gotten through the whole verse. Then repeat the process, saying the words differently every time. Examples: slow, fast, in a silly voice, quiet, loud, etc.
- Listen to these Fruit of the Spirit songs on YouTube:
Once your child/children have it, I recommend practicing reciting the verse each morning over breakfast, before they leave for school, and maybe even before bed. Make it a part of your routine, and you’ll be amazed at how fast they will begin to pick it up.

Activities:
With our theme this week, “Fruit of the Spirit”, here are a few extra ideas for activities to do with your children:
- Listen to the fruit of the Spirit songs I have listed in the Memory Verse section of this post.
- Make the Rainbow Fruit Salad snack recipe as a family, allowing your kids to help you wash, cut, and mix the fruit.
- Depending on where you live and what’s in season, go fruit picking together at a local farm. (ex: strawberry picking, raspberry picking, blueberry picking, apple picking)
- Start a small garden and grow some fruit of your own this year!
- Go around as a family/group and share one fruit of the Spirit you see evident in each other.

Parenting Tip of the Week:
One easy way we can help our children build a strong foundation of faith is through the music we listen to in our homes and in the car. It can be such a passive activity, having music on in the background while we cook dinner, while they play with their toys, or while we drive them to school or practice, but it can make such an impact. Fill your home with praise and worship music whenever possible. You’ll see the greatest effects of this when you suddenly hear your children singing along to the words of your favorite worship song. Check out my Spotify for playlists I’ve created specifically with Christian Songs for Kids and My Current Worship Favs to play in our home! New songs are added frequently.

Prayers:
Lastly, I like to end each Weekly Fun Plan with some example prayers for your week. One is to pray with your kids, maybe before they get on the bus in the morning, before a meal, or before bed, and the other prayer is for you, the parent, to pray over your kids throughout the week.
Prayer to say with your kids this week:
“Dear God, Thank You for loving us and giving us Your Holy Spirit. Please help us to grow good fruit in our hearts. We want to be more like Jesus every day. Help us to show Your love to others in all we do. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
Prayer to pray over your kids this week:
“Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the precious gift of my child. As they grow in heart, mind, and spirit, I ask that You would shape their character to reflect Yours. As they learn about the fruit of the Spirit, plant those seeds deep in their heart.
Grow in them love that reflects Your heart,
Joy that isn’t shaken by circumstances,
Peace that calms their worries,
Patience that waits with grace,
Kindness that touches others,
Goodness that honors You,
Faithfulness that stays true,
Gentleness that brings comfort,
And self-control that walks in wisdom.
Help me, Lord, to model these fruits in my own life and guide them with grace and truth. May their life be rooted in You and bear fruit that brings glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
